Carnelian

Used to make beads since antiquity, a carnelian (or cornelian) is any chalcedony (a variety of quartz) that is translucent and appears red, orange or amber. Technically pure carnelians are not banded. A minor gemstone, carnelians are most often cut as cabochons.
