Unlike inclusions which are found within a gemstone, blemishes describe characteristics on the surface of a gemstone. Some blemishes are naturally occurring, while some are the result of working with the stone. Blemishes are classified into categories including — natural, nick, pit, polish line, burn mark or facet, girdle, scratch, graining, abrasion, lizard skin.
